My encounters with healers...

Healing can be found in the most obscure shapes and forms. I believe there are healing powers within all of us; although not all people understand how to harness these powers with their programmed lifestyles clouding this perspective of healing. Those who heal, I find to be profoundly in tune with the mind, body, soul, and Earth. When people understand the ways in which the mind, body, soul, and Earth are connected and interlaced, it seems as though healing can be achieved. I have discovered healing through: music, touch, yoga, meditation, sleep, family, friends, stories, thought, conversation, laughter, people, and many more that are not coming to my head at the moment. Many of these forms of healing come from being in the present, a very difficult thing to achieve most of the time. In my experience, healing is presented in the form of peace, joy, and harmony within and outside of the body. Before I was introduced to alternative medicine, my only view of healing was based upon sitting 20 minutes in an uncomfortable waiting room to see the Doctor for 5 minutes before being handed a precription. Who wants to see the Doctor when individualism, care, and time do not seem to be factors in the healing process? So much for the so called "healthcare". People are not the same, so why does the American culture seem to assume everyone is alike? A question I am unsure I will ever discover the answer to. People are programmed to trust the Doctor, yet the Doc's arm is being twisted by greedy pharmaceutical companies. If the medical world had their best intentions in healing rather than money, there wouldn't be pills circulating to create more issues.
I want, more than anything, to be in a world that empowers everyone's individualism. For now this world to me looks a lot like close knit families and communities that understand we are not all the same. This open mind and acceptance towards each other creates a perfect environment for healing to be based around. When I was younger and occasionally sick, as many people experience, I felt much more comfortable at home surrounded by family and those who knew how to help me heal myself. With the right amount of attention, care, and comfort I was always able to find wellness. If this is true for many people, why are we placing our loved ones in an unfamiliar environment to be "cared" for by a stranger? Don't get me wrong, hospitals serve their purpose for severe cases (such as a broken bone or the victim of a car accident, etc...); but hospitals also take away the love and care that a family or community could ever give. I would love to see allopathic and alternative medical centers unite and find the best processes of healing to each individual. We should no longer be treating our bodies as if we were all born with the same one, so let us take charge of our own lives and the bodies we inhabit by doing what we feel is right for our individual person. Alternative healers are there to guide our wellness in a positive direction, and the allopathic doctors are there to mend us when we do not have the strength to heal ourselves. Encounters with healers should give us each insight into our own illness or wellness; and this is what I base my encounters with healers on. 1. I thought this post was very powerful! I really enjoyed how you addressed individuality and how important it is for everyone to be treated differently, because we are in fact all different from one another. I also enjoyed your list of ways you have felt the powers of healing. I think that people can easily forget the simple ways that one can be healed, like through song or sound.
